On August 22-26, at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, with the assistance of National Association of electronic media and the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for tourism development, a forum “Uzbekistan at the crossroads of civilizations” will be held in four cities of Uzbekistan – Tashkent, Termez, Samarkand and Bukhara within the framework of the Week of culture and art, dedicated to the sensational results of 40 years of research. This was announced on July 22 at a press conference in Tashkent with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov, Chairman of the National Association of electronic media of Uzbekistan Firdavs Abdukhalikov and Academician, historian Edward Rtveladze.
According to Uzbek researchers, headed by academician Edward Rtveladze, the Old Alexandria on the Oxus was on the site of the current Kampyrtepa. For many years the scientific community were disputes about where was located Alexandria on the Oxus (ancient Termez, Airtam or Kampyr-Tepa).
It is expected that forum in the framework of the Week of cultural heritage representatives of the scientific community and the media, the evidence will show, that Alexandria on the Oxus was situated on the site of Kampyr-Tepa ancient settlement, which was marked in the manuscripts of the ancient Greek historian and geographer Ptolemy and is a unique monument of Central Asian Hellenic culture.
The data analyzed by the archaeologists, show that of the three cities only Kampyrtepa were found reliable data.
“This is a real breakthrough in the historical and archaeological science of Uzbekistan. We believe that this wonderful news will arouse the interest of our young people in our history, our rich cultural heritage, for the promotion of this unique place, as well as the protection of the historical monument will be developed a special program.
It is planned to create an appropriate infrastructure for a more convenient inspection of the monument by tourists. It may also be a Museum dedicated to the Alexandria on the Oxus”. – Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov noted during the press conference.
It should be noted that the event will be attended by the Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay and experts of the Organization, scientists and researchers, as well as participate in the conference on the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, topical issues and their solutions. This event is important in the preservation of cultural heritage.
